Boy getting baptized in the Jordan River | Balsam Tours

Taking the Plunge: A Baptism in the Jordan River

February 10, 2026/in Uncategorized/by Andra Hall

If you’re looking for an opportunity to be baptized in the same waters as Jesus Christ, look no further than the Jordan River. Situated between Israel and Jordan, the Jordan River is a popular destination for Christian tourists looking to take part in a baptism ceremony.

After being baptized in the river, you can then spend the afternoon relaxing and floating in the Dead Sea. The high concentration of salt in the water makes it impossible to sink, so you can just lay back and enjoy the sunny weather. Plus, the sand along the shores of the Dead Sea is said to have therapeutic properties, so don’t forget to relax along the shore before heading home!

The baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:13-17)

Jesus came to John the Baptist while he was baptizing people in the River Jordan. John tried to make him change his mind, but Jesus answered, “In this way we will do all that God requires.” So John agreed. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. Heaven was opened and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. Then a voice said from heaven, “This is my own dear son with whom I am pleased.”

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity

If you’ve always wanted to be baptized but haven’t had the opportunity, a trip to the Jordan River is a perfect way to do it. Balsam Tours offers baptism packages that include transportation to and from the Jordan River and your Hotel as well as a guide who will help you make all the arrangements.

What to Expect

The actual baptism ceremony is relatively short, but it is a very powerful and moving experience. You will be immersed in the water three times in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. After you are baptized, you will feel a sense of peace and joy. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will never forget. You will be presented with a certificate of baptism.

Afterwards, you’ll have plenty of time to relax and float in the Dead Sea.

Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses as well as comfortable clothing that covers your arms and legs. You’ll also want to bring along swimwear so you can take a dip in the Dead Sea. And don’t forget your camera to capture all those memories!
